Late Meal In Italian Village
AMERICAN
Just saw documentary on Sydney Opera House. Icon now, but original architect left in a huff.
DANE
Typical Dane!
AMERICAN
How come so many great architects come from...?
DANE
In a cold climate you think warm thoughts.
AMERICAN
There have been great architects from your warm Italian climate.
ITALIAN
Of course, in ancient times mostly. But life is not architecture. Pass the wine!
DANE
I can think of a few Americans too.
AMERICAN
Well there we have both climates. And many Southern citizens trying to shove God down your throat.
ITALIAN
You don’t enjoy life, and are miserable in your power. This is my country and there is loveliness everywhere. Look around in the moonlight! And the waitress looks like a film star, and is so sweet you can forget the sugar for your coffee!
DANE
Will we let him have the last word here?
AMERICAN
Yes!
