Very American Frontier

“Are you still blowing Chinamen for nickels?”

The Professor answered all such vulgarity with “Not recently.”

But the rough miners continued to deal this dirty coin. Drunk.

Wives, fed up, started a church. There, a circuit preacher
gave The Word.

It became the only social center, and the women cooked
and baked, and prepared dishes other ways each week.

To an enormous surplus, food spilling out of the small
building into the roadway,

The men tromp through it on their way to the mine.
Singing, rather screaming, of one, Fifi, who wouldn’t...
at first.

On their return, blackly cursing her and wives and all else.

Corporate HQ

-Our take is that we engage our critics, have a
no-holds-barred discussion, and change ourselves
for the betterment of mankind!

-Oh yeah? I just thought we were mining coal.
Look, our critics are a bunch of weak hillbillies.
Every sentence trails off.

-That’s the problem. Public pity for them
is killing us! So, the thing is first to beef them up!

-How do we do that?

-Send a leader in. One of our own who can mouth Lefty.

-Good idea. He’ll hog TV time and make them appear
to have fiber.

-Then we’ll have that discussion!

-What if he turns traitor with all the good home cooking?

-We got more. It’s the beauty of the system.

Miners Trapped, Chile

For additional three months,
but claustrophobic a lay term
not theirs. Systems setting to

send down food, meds, take up
wastes, etc. Guess mostly lefties,
so that'll help. Best thing going,

not Americans with smatterings of
fractious my-wayers, or those

whose faith sustains
while destroying,

or Mamas boys
bleating "Me!"
