Berlin ‘38 in Color

A buoyancy of small cars!

Too, the women afloat, liquid
under flowing dresses.

The light itself, silken.

Until two men martialed black-
beyond-black,

goose-step past high.
Low Comedy. Menace.

These, all, though,
images merely.

Unless one allows
their assembling

beauty
or terror.

The mind,
palpable,

unscreens.

Actor

-I almost relished the atrocious material!

-Given THAT turkey, say they, the sonofabitch can really act?

-A script my international film career followed explicitly.

-Well, you’re distinguished! But no one says that,
because of all the bad shows.

-They do in the theater. Feel it across the footlights!...so to speak.

-What’s up there?

-Just did Lear, Claremont Experimental.

-Wow! Interesting!

-You’d think, but...more bad luck with Typhoon Inez for opening.

-No!

-Producers threw in the sponge.

-Hafta be humongous one for typhoon.

-Such a bad joke! But probably called for.

-Sorry. But one and done for Lear?

-Not completely. Cast got it on their phones.

-Quite a juggling act! You come offstage and quick grab your phone?

-No need, they’re in the script.

-Uh?...what sound a modern turkey make?

-I’ll put it on Speaker.

Jack the Genius

 An Adventure in Art

Jack the Genius was plan old Jack
for many years. Making small films
and writing stories and scripts.

Until Bitsy Hopewell where a sweet
cheerleader morphs into a particularly
obnoxious male.

This labored effort won the Sheep Drover’s
Film Festival in Australia.

The jury especially referred to its artlessness.

Two viciously competing schools arose:

JG and JUF, the last meaning Jack the Utter Fool.

They booked adjoining meeting rooms at the Muncie Y for the Indiana Outlier Flick Fest.

Bloody fisticuffs later.

Jack was shut out on awards there, and quit the business.

That didn’t stop either group.

And younger critics mention him in the same breath with Kurosawa and Fellini.

A short breath...the squabble goes on!

Jack the Genius marries Stella Adela, Stripper, washes cars.

The Woman Who Wouldn't

Please don't impute sex im-
mediately. Came out diffident
in everything. Steady, not ex-

perimental, in dull truth.
As an example, when two-
toned sneakers attacked

the village, she eschewed
chartreuse/orange for a few
pairs of firesale black.

In similar vein, when a brother-
sister gifted her a Jill Karby
Blouse--both having hopes--

she took advantage of their
emphatic glasses, and dearth
of judging size, by wearing it

to bed. Alone and happy! For
emotion exhausted and

embarrassed, and that

was that! In Hollywood Bourgeois,
she meets a Fellow Diffident, they

develop a rattling hate, then, lah-
dee-dah, one paradoxical love-

v-v-v! Some weirdness splits them,
AND, with all looking altogether flat-

ly, grimly pastel...ah!...

Well, she does prove Darker
Art-House, in a new flick so

Swedish-Boring as to supply pain.
Thus now, how truly to get her an
ultimate wiggle on?

Nothing. She’ll go her way.
And die. Like the rest of us.

Two Classic Films

Third Man still shades Citizen Kane in
my judgment, with its vile characters

rushing huge against floodlit ruins.
Gritty postwar utter exhaustion.

The wickedness, and crushed innocence,
Italicwork-a-day military straining under
depravity and political burlesque.

But the American film more specifically prophetic.*

*...decent, hard-working people in this community...
robbed blind by a pack of money-mad pirates...

Aspen

-What kinda fil-ums you make?

-Slow ones full of precise detail and talk.

-Jesus! Who got the time?

-A point. And the talk, that is the conversationalists, use words
mostly to torture each other.

-Hey! Was married once. No more of that shit!

-Well, thanks for any exposure you give...

-The product? You’ll never sell it.

-Probably not.

-At any rate you’re the first person I’ve interviewed who didn’t tuck
his or her legs under.

-Too old. Is that legs akimbo? That’s not quite accurate, is it?

-Hey, fuck the wordsy-turdsy Jane Austin bit! I’m going to see a guy now who is world famous for fuckin exploding cars! He’ll give me some bang-bang quotes!

-Surely, but didn’t think that kind of film could get a showing here.

-Are you kidding? Wake up and smell the marijuana!
