The Great Big Bonanza of Nothing
-Marcy and I wasted an afternoon helping Jerr remember what he forgot.
-A big deal?
-Nah, there are none anymore for him.
You reach a certain age…?
-So the two of you pretended?
-We’re used to it with each other.
-All of it sounds like Life is a Great Big
Bonanza of Nothing!
-Much less than that unless you
have friends.

The Feminine View of History
-Have you watched World Cup?
-Dive-o-rama? Wouldn’t miss it!
-Not since nuns acted out minor biblical
stories, has there been such excitement!
-Be still my heart! But there IS... extraordinary footwork, yes?
-Any collection of ragamuffins does
it as well.
-At any rate, the Greats are even greater
dramatists.
-Like common schnooks fetching the mail and slipping. But then the horrible PAIN!
-Passing o’er their supremely ugly brillo-
bearded faces!
-Academy-Fuckin-Award!
-And often it’s a phantom fall with no
other nun in the vicinity.
-The facial distortions even worse then!
-What a thoroughgoing girly-girly fraud!
-And they wonder why it doesn’t catch
on here?
-We have our politics. Where men are
whiny broads also.
-And the women more butch than men!
-The former should learn this Fairy Soccer!
-Oh no! Heavens to Betsy! That would
so SO! frighten the European cream puffs whilst they flop!

Actor
-Given THAT turkey, say they, the sonofabitch can really act?
-A script my international film career followed explicitly.
-Well, you’re distinguished! But no one says that,
because of all the bad shows.
-They do in the theater. Feel it across the footlights!...so to speak.
-What’s up there?
-Just did Lear, Claremont Experimental.
-Wow! Interesting!
-You’d think, but...more bad luck with Typhoon Inez for opening.
-No!
-Producers threw in the sponge.
-Hafta be humongous one for typhoon.
-Such a bad joke! But probably called for.
-Sorry. But one and done for Lear?
-Not completely. Cast got it on their phones.
-Quite a juggling act! You come offstage and quick grab your phone?
-No need, they’re in the script.
-Uh?...what sound a modern turkey make?
-I’ll put it on Speaker.

Nocturnal
At first it started as parody.
He imitated the apes he has
seen in films and zoos.
His nightly walk became downward-
extended swinging arms, the scratching
of the armpits, thumping of the chest.
Then, one misty night, he encountered
another "ape."
She pretty much mirrored him, and after
some dominance traits, they laughed
and introduced themselves in human
terms. She Helene, he Cliff.
Both motivated, it seems, by the tameness
of their daylight lives forcing them
into the wildness of this one.
They were shy, for apes, and the mating
took several encounters.
But then Helene confided that she had
a few daylight lovers, human. Cliff burned
with human jealousy.
But thumped his chest till she warned
he could injure himself.
She became pregnant, and the DNA tests
showed a wily accountant.
Soon she had no reason to come to the
park where they met, but still ranged
elsewhere in her neighborhood, with the
amazed accountant in tow.
Cliff went back to Solo Ape, a role he
was born for.

Getting the Right Man
The Selectmen politely asked each year,
and Curt became a Minuteman Sentry,
guarding the town.
Actually a “statue” with bronzed clothes
and makeup.
He'd alternate the small bridges connecting
to the world.
This year at the Markey Avenue one by the
railroad.
There cars honked and trains whistled, and
he frequently acknowledged both with his
bronze musket.
Unfortunately, the pigeons treated him the
same way they do other monuments.
The result: a thorough shower and brush-
scrubbing every evening of Revolutionary Days.
His friend, Marcus remarked "You such a great
method actor that the pigeons think you're a
fixed apparatus to an edifice or something!"
Then he'd wind deeply down into one of his
lecture-arguments, how we all play parts in
life, and, therefore, are never really genuine.
Curt's Jill always laughed their discussions away,
this time saying "I don't know why they picked
my Curty for a statue, but they got the right man!"

Building Emotion
Glenda and I
played together as tykes. I don’t know if it was because our
parents ignored us, but we learned to practice little cruelties.
We were acting–-that was understood–-but tears produced
at times, nonetheless.
Her family moved to a better neighborhood, ending our small
drama, and presently both of us are married to indifferent
partners.
I to Marcia, she Budge.
Once, I met her at Motor Vehicles would you believe?
Getting our pictures snapped at neighboring cameras.
Joked, over coffee, about my Marcia and her Budge as a couple.
When you share a childhood, you can talk about anything.

Language Boosts Career
Your fortune assured
when you're turned into a verb.
Deckell Hastings was finished as an actor when he took the
part of Roarkie on the internet comedy, Forever Bent.
Roarkie screwed everything up. His specialty: relationships.
Now couples all over the world saying "Don't roarkie me in
this one!" etc.
"And in Queneme, some African dump, it's totally freakin
gangbusters! Of course there, it's the word for a sexual
act too." His agent filled him in.
"Which one?" inquired the actor.
"Use your imagination!"
Nothing more difficult, so he forgot.

Dream and Reality in Scale
Bit Actor, and Star Friend
-Everything I do is small-timey.
-The Big Time is Small Time.
-So when you get there, where have you gotten?
-Exactly.
-Well, that’s an unsatisfactory answer!
-Sorry. What I have.

Presence
No one calls rehearsals
you happen into, but do
you learn the roles later
defining you? Or know
you must step away
from type? Little of both.
Thus and so are
you comprised
and compromised.
