The Stages of Music

Pleased so many attended her
piano lecture, professors and
students, the latter inching forward
in their seats.

These so rapt, she has to loosen
them up.

Injecting litle burlesque varieties
into her examples.

“Of course  you could play it like
this (laughter) or even THIS!”

Chubby meets her after at the
short reception. Blade thin, but
the childhood name persists
as irony.

"You don't mind being seen,
however briefly, as a parody
of yourself?”

“I adore Miss Parody, and all
my me's!”

“Your me's on scene are more
than adequate.”

Suddenly ravenous, and lapsing
into the Czech accent to notify him,
she forces a trip to Luigi's, where she
eats and he mostly watches.

Devours, actually.

Divine Generosity

Minus and Plus

-You're not a pianist are you?

-Very very amateur.

-Then, you'll hafta come up with some workarounds.
I'm not into music, so I can't be more specific.

So...life without right pinky.

Mine just...disappeared. No shearing accident or anything.
First, down to the lower knuckle, and then that went too.
The Hand Doctor knew of only ten other cases. Anyway, it all
looked quite smooth.

-But,  you're in luck. The new stem cell treatments will grow
another, and you'll be a normal piano person once more.

It did. Two.

-I can't see that it would present much of a problem in everyday
life. As to the piano, well, you'll be more of a tinkler, hey?

I reserved judgement on any day-to-day difficulties. But, there
were none.

The last thing Doctor spouted involved The Finger God.

Unexpected from Man of Science, but I'm being safe anyway,
praying that He or She skip me next time.

I took a great notion and a military pass

Bussed from Aberdeen to The Berbus
Music School in Baltimore. Kindly Mr.
Berbus show me a chord or 2, bemoaned I

had no practice piano. The Enlisted Men’s
club had one but I wouldn’t dare, though
I had sneaked there for breakfast.

(As basic trainees we were forbidden
to leave our area. I just placed
myself in the field between, moved

a few times like a chessman…
eventually digging into French Toast.)

Mr. Berbus had given me a paper keyboard.
I laid it atop my footlocker, practiced

for the first and last time, due
to the small crowd which gathered.
