Defining Drama Queen

-We're more than a bit nervous,
but not Drama Queens.

-I don't like to be called anything
with Queen in it!

-Noted. Well then, let's coin a term:
Dramatics. Suitable for our sex,
and the fair one also.

-I feel like a Dramatic sometimes.

-All about you?

-I guess one likes to add color and
zip to the proceedings upon occasion.

-With a super dash of ego?

-That, too, of course.

-Life can get gray without Dramatics.

-So, let the worst of us overdraw it? Bully us
that way?

-In measure.

-It's...mostly gray now.

-Get more friends! Go to ballgames.
We live near Philly. Phillies,
Eagles, Sixers, Flyers form the
regional bellyache. Sports Radio
will extinguish your spare, lonely hours.

-Should...I marry again?

-Sixty-two percent. She'll bring problems,
but compensations.

-Must make sure she's not a Drama Queen!

-Dramatic.

-Oh, right. I'm glad we had this little chat.
It brought me absolutely nothing.

-What I'm here for.

The Women Who Sweep In

Keenly

Queenly

(Sometimes Drama-Queenly)

-It’s not that the hospital wasn’t prepared.
We knew she was coming! But Mosley, RN,
left the front desk to pee, and in that space,
she swept in. Volunteer Denise not up to it!

-But still explained it wasn’t visiting hours, etc?

-She swept by her and up the elevator and
into the unit!

-Unstoppable!

-Dr Holtzel just coming off shift and no
match for her. Soon he was following
orders in practically a sleep-walk.

-She makes men zombies?

-Just about. Okay okay, win some, lose some.

-But how can we be better prepared next time?

-Stiffen each line! She should never reach the doctor!
Never even get out of the parking garage! So let’s
get real officers in there, not old men playing pocket
pool who retired during the Carter Administration!

-I heard that sometimes they sweep in in teams!

-No hope then. That’s all she wrote!

-Why...am I laughing?  It’s so potentially toxic!

-It’s funny? Not!

-No, I just thought have any of these women
actually, literally, swept in? Using a broom?

-Don’t be ridiculous!

Drama Queens

We called them The Three Drama Queens. Steffi,
Denise, and Roger's Other Brother, or ROB.

It wasn't that they threw insufferable fits, though
they had on occasion. Mostly, language blown way up,
and the same, of course, for petty hurts.

In the club, each took some tolerance, and President
Craig thought if he busied them, they wouldn't have
time to act out.

He threw the Ice Cream Social at them when the
Carruthers moved away, and it soon started to have
disaster written all over it!

Okay, but so what? There'd have to be some fuss and
bother anyway. It being in August and like a furnace
every year!

And the picnic area requiring some repair after some
benches had collapsed after the long winter, and left
in that decrepit state while unhurried Carl got bids.

ROB handled that himself, complaining endlessly. No one
allowed to help, especially to touch his tools.

Plus, our usual ice cream distributor left the business!

So, it'd all be a challenge for non-Drama Queens!

Immense success! And the trio acted normally,
even moreso, and quite welcoming to the members
and families who seldom came out for anything.

True that ROB became famous for claiming "I'm melting on
this very SPOT!" And repeating it.

And Steffi and Denise went at each other as the day
wound down, but it wasn't that noticeable because they
did it in slicing whispers.

The kids tried to gobble every flavor up, since things could
get soupy quickly, and some got ‘Ice Cream Eye’ and screamed,
but our female DQs proved motherly in applying warm facecloths.

A scientific note: Chocolate Macadamia caused the most problems
that way.

President Carl tried to sign them on for next year, but they exploded
in unison: "No way, José!"

But we’ve been learning, and take that for a yes.

Drama in Concord

Our own Drama Queen
throws all at preparation.
Hair and eyes and speech.

Most performances get
overwrung and fizzle.

Her new husband, though (such
a thing as Drama King?) a holy
internationalist. They act for cause

presently, and have even gathered
the Academy Awards appropriate
to Religion. God is pleased. Side-

kick, Padre Time, though,
resists lasering for his raw,
inescapable quotas.

No matter. Who remains
will dress the other's corpse,
florid in the way of Faith.

Trip

For Boston we rent
a car, skip Amtrak run.
Sit next to Drama Queen.

(Even still, residual trembling.)

When home I squeeze
the wife! Won’t let go.

She yells "I know you! What
the hell have you done?"

“Not So Super Mario”

The name hung on him
by the Irish woman,

also here to learn the new
series of switches.

He shunned her, a bitch,
pure and simple, who cut
all for even innocent takes.

During the Super Bowl frenzy
he wore a Baltimore jersey.

Only he and Group’s basic
“Drama Queen” did so.

From something this silly,
a bond formed and they,
despite warnings, dated.

She couldn’t fathom his
fascination for what she
called soccer. “Like ballet

with the Prima Ballerina
shrieking in pain over
a hangnail.” He explained

that what she further labeled
Academy Award! was similar

to her frequent protestations
for justice and equity.

Didn’t wash, so he gave up.
His attention seized,

anyway, by her performances
bordering on egregious. Such

disturbed others; he simply repeated
to her how lovely she was in everything.

When it grows time to leave,
she floats following him, now

loses that idea quickly without
his really weighing in.

Back in Bolzano, how her emails flood!
Then hop, diminish, and stop.

Two old uncles visit. They have found
a bride for him. He thanks them, but de-
tails how such rituals have truly lost force

in such a cosmopolitan area. But
certainly they will meet!–out of
respect for their love and position.

The photo shows her to be pretty.
And reserved. That proves
the clincher finally.

The Drama Queen

She requires understanding, he
understands, and plunges in dur-
ing hopeful Spring. With Summer

he has sorted the hysterical from
the legitimate and is quite smug
about it. But Fall brings a vibrancy

where nothing can be proven
small. By Winter he has numbed,

smiles incessantly, one
strangely content. Others

visit the Mary Kay bungalow
on La Dee Dah Lane, bringing
their toolkits. His man-cave

in the basement declared off-limits,
but no one cares about it anyway,

only the intriguing case exhausting
oxygen in the chintzy living room.
