Christian Mercy in Philly's "Graterford Experiment"

Many prisoners, forced

to speak to Jesus, and never to

each other: lonely, went insane.

Defining Drama Queen

-We're more than a bit nervous,
but not Drama Queens.

-I don't like to be called anything
with Queen in it!

-Noted. Well then, let's coin a term:
Dramatics. Suitable for our sex,
and the fair one also.

-I feel like a Dramatic sometimes.

-All about you?

-I guess one likes to add color and
zip to the proceedings upon occasion.

-With a super dash of ego?

-That, too, of course.

-Life can get gray without Dramatics.

-So, let the worst of us overdraw it? Bully us
that way?

-In measure.

-It's...mostly gray now.

-Get more friends! Go to ballgames.
We live near Philly. Phillies,
Eagles, Sixers, Flyers form the
regional bellyache. Sports Radio
will extinguish your spare, lonely hours.

-Should...I marry again?

-Sixty-two percent. She'll bring problems,
but compensations.

-Must make sure she's not a Drama Queen!

-Dramatic.

-Oh, right. I'm glad we had this little chat.
It brought me absolutely nothing.

-What I'm here for.

...a dating post for Liberals.

McNally’s Tavern in Chestnut Hill

First time for Jerry, Accountant for
School District of Philadelphia, and
Nicole, French Teacher, Girls’ High.

Jerry: Trump will have deaths on
his hands! Old White Men choking
on their Reactionary gorge and
succumbing to strokes!

Nicole: It couldn’t happen to a
nicer bunch of Racists and Sexists!

Jerry: Oh well...maybe they believe
what they say.

Nicole: Merde merde merde!

Jerry: Ship out the remaining Republicans?

Nicole: Of course! Keep the immigrants instead!
They have good food!

Both pleased they seemed compatible.

Ordered JFK Sandwiches.

The front windows went from afterglow to black
as buses hissed along Germantown Avenue.

Both prefer Becks.

The Appetities of Women

Turning Cliff

When Tess returned from her crazy fling in the Poconos,
Cliff instantly forgave, which really knocked her off-stride.

“He’s too good!” she complained to Letzy, who agreed.

They decided to toughen him up! Final object: The
Anti-Cliff!

Succeeded so well that Betts Harkin, who had just
moved from Scranton, gathered him up. “Hey! I thought
too much Brotherly Love in the City of Brotherly Love!
Then I met Cliff and forgot all the little feminine ones!”

Now, Tess spurned!  When she tried to complain to
the “Broads Only Thursday Wine Group,” she was told
to shut up. “Besides, any man that can be switched
back and forth like that isn’t worth shit!”

That last from old married woman, Delsey Karks,
with the--don’t you know?--perfect husband!

The following week he pulled a rowboat up to
the Gas Company dock. Dressed as a pirate mid
roses! Assorted.

He “kidnapped” her from her desk mid squeals aplenty
from the other women.

They rowed to dinner in Manayunk, troupadored by
Biffer Hoxley and his guitar .

Prisoner of Love and other Bing Crosby era passions.

‘No freakin taste!” Together remark Tess and Letzy          .
watching them out the tall window.

“What’s a swash anyway?” Letzy asks.

“I don’t know, but I bet she can’t wait for him
to buckle it.”

“Can you UNbuckle it?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Channel Six had covered, and the subsequent rowing back
of Biffer, alone.

For some reason, they wanted to further cement the “Old
Lady Demographic,” with the poignant shot of Biffer
leaving the rowboat, trudging the pier to the parking lot.

Anchor Destiny D’Onofrio, who had graduated from Archbishop
Carroll with Tess, sent her the story on her phone before it aired,
and she threw it up on the largest screen in the office.

A party was ensuing where staff, and interns heading back to
college, ingested cake.

Tess thought she'd try a slice. “My fifth!” bragged Dinah Dell from
Villanova. “Sugar High, like, totally insured! But, hey! that’s some
Major-League Butt up there!” shrieked she as Biffer eased the guitar
into his Fiat.

Varieties of Discourse

in Philadelphia

Mark being articulate, too much, we went crazy with
his repetitions.

Whatever the subject, and they, too, proved limitless.

Lizzy, our garage sale maniac, hit one of Eagles memorabilia,

the old dude having kicked his last football. Evidently a true
idiot, his compressed air horn was thrown in by the grinning
widow when Liz bought all the jerseys at full price.

So, we dressed in them, and blasted the horn when Mark
spouted on and on.

Worked for a while: he clammed after a normal time!

But one night, he kept going anyway, so we adjourned
outside for some weed.

There we just caught his murmurs, not unbearable. Anyway,
the subject was mothers, specifically his.

When we got back, Liz gave him one extraordinarily sustained
blast and he exploded into tears.

Trembling wetly, explained that talking was like breathing
to him!

So we compromised. He sped on, seemingly with infinity in
mind, and we simply turned off.

Yeah? Don’t worry about it! We ARE becoming adults.

Taking our own routes.

Anger for Art

Architecture as Frozen Music*

Uh huh? Leading me to feel
there's more bullshit there
than in the other arts, even.

Okay, I own a bar supply business, say,
& am looking for a standalone building
in Philly's Manayunk? Retail store-

front, plus warehouse in back
for the wholesale hunk.

What can an architect do? Well, some glassy
thing over the Schuylkill River, reflecting

the boats rowing by
sunsets etc. That's nice.

But a Moorish courtyard between
shop & warehouse? Sound ridiculous,
but I must keep on listening.

So, an architect should pay attention
to function, yes, but when a curve-

ball chance arises, fercrisakes
throw it! Don't just emit
some stale&phony shit about it.

Bike through Philadelphia University
one midnight & lights blaze
from Architecture Building.

That’s a start. No gentleman
or aesthetic lady desires
to be working that late.

Religious Rule

Nuns ascend, paired,
the long escalator

of the Sheraton Center
in Philadelphia.

Descending,
me,
alone.

Look back
to confirm.

Nuns nearer, by God,
to me inclined

to snap heads my way
and stare. And stare

so each flanking nun

gazes up to heaven

and the convention level.
What if it never ends?

Philly’s Mount Airy Elite

of a penetratingly chilly
morning, emptying from

mansions and gym-
sized apartments
in sleep wear.

Auto glass everywhere, glint-
ing weakly. Furious Murder

shouteth then ’pon the frost air.
If perp bumbled by with pet

crowbar, he'd be torn limb
from larceny! Bloody
pyjamas small price to pay.

Seeketh thee Better Angels?
None here in beautiful Mt Airy
of olden, Quaker Philadelphia.
