Philosophy in a Low Key
-What is Life?
-The slow destruction
of theory?
-And what is Theory?
-Masturbation.
-You’ve been so strangely affected!
-All in all.

Saga of Modern Sort
One Nervous Cat
before that,
decided on my
thirtieth birthday
to thereafter half try.
It saved me! Hey!
Not perfectly. Lost
two marriages and
one ridiculously
extracting position.
Settled in with my
Stelly, whose lazy
ass rivaled my own.
We both work
for her Dad who,
if he got one thing right,
be the first.
Our Yuppie kids, one
of each sex--though
which, shifts--
have theories
for everything,
and call bs
on all else.
Label us absurdly
clueless.
Who cares?
Well I do!
With Stelly.
Half.
You too
can sound
what to do. Hurtful
World refracts you
cynically? Turn the
lens around.

In Heaven and Earth
There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
Hamlet died.
Seldom certain.
But Horatio slides
in the same
halfass manner by
the centuries.
Most-GOD HELP US!-
are both.

Two Painters
-I shoot for a concept right away.
-Because you can’t draw?
-Precisely.
-Lack of talent is the best shortcut.
-Would you say that such lack tends
to abstraction too?
-In your case, yes.
-Not necessarily bad, though.
-Are we judging on results?
-Jury always out and never returns.
-You vaguely posit one very slippery universe.
-There’s another?

Water and Depth
His Friend, Ridge
-You know, Ridgey, my condo‘s on a river. Water, yes?
-I’m following.
-It’s pretty at sunset, and when the dolphins come, but I don’t go into it any further than that.
-So what?
-Thoreau makes me guilty with all the detail about Walden Pond.
-Hey! He’s a philosopher. Deeper and deeper into shit!–-what they do.
-I still don’t feel quite right...
-Look at me! Omar Khayyam says I was never deep in anything save wine? Well, I was never deep in anything, period!
-You exaggerate!
-Understate.

The Promise of Philosophy
“If life's an orange crate, you keep going back
through yesterdays to find the future there.”
Jeannie answered as she always did: “Whatever.”
Her piercings a-glimmer.
He sang I dream of Jeannie
with the light green hair.
Borne like a vapor on
the slutty air.
It sounded pretty, so they tried awakening the Guru
to hear, but he was dead.
Next day they sacrificed a virtual dog to him online.
Then, the vital doctrines reasserted: “Life goes on!”
“Whatever.”

Confusion
Mid Something or Other
Unsure of what anything means.
Not nihilist who thinks everything means nothing.
He feels there’s meaning he just can’t arrive at.
His train hits final station. He gets off.
It’s Nowhere. Trains forbidden to leave
from there.

Boweling For Clarity
Philosophy survey book in bathroom.
I scan at random. Unsystematic me,
with these sages framing
intellectual edifice. So, true
crystalline amid core stinks...THAT
reeks of sarcasm, for they ARE at-
tempting to plunge into bottomless
messes: Who am I? Why
is everyone a cramp in the ass?
But it’s, all of it, Cloudville, Baby! Oh,
know I should read the thing entire.
Preferably backwards.
