Friends Diagnose
-Heard you went Altzy.
-Almost. Very short episode, which
straightened itself around. Some
little confusion and forgetting.
-Welcome to the club!
-But I’m good to go now! Just
gotta write more things down.
-There goes your charm!
-Uh huh? Based as it is on
the half-assed?
-Tough area to claim accomplishment
in, since it’s crowded by the rest
of us.
-Anyway, Doc insisted on Brain Scan,
which showed nothing!
-Too bad. You’d like to see evidence
you have one.
-I’ve always wondered.
-Well I can attest I’ve seen it
operating these many years!
-Thank you! You’re lifting me up!
-What IS your name, anyway?

The Final Question
Gemma added mass to any confusion.
And not just because she was a
big-boned girl.
Okay, she was supposed to bring
cookies to the retirement do for
old Schwartzy.
She heard rookies. So, came with
Decker and Delilah.
Who proved high!
It was downhill from there.
When's it uphill?
Not much at Consul Insurance.
Anyway! We keep it all straight in the
liability sector. Uh huh?
If somebody sues you, our policy
holder, look out!
Consul exists for misfits to be
employed.
All places do?
I didn’t know that! How come we
all don’t die of incompetence?
Our own and the Massive Surround?

Point
-By whom?
-Not important!
-Seems to me it…!
-He had set the whole thing up.
-To what end.
-To make a point.
-WHAT POINT?
-Know that, know everything.
-Don’t tell me if you find out.
-How come?
-I enjoy staying pissed!

The Necessary Invention
“Crusty” the mildest
appellation describing
Sloan, City Editor
of the New Haven Journal Courier.
Who one Two-
AM had only
a rookie to obscenely dispatch
to a late November four-alarm
conflagration!
Youngster was to phone in,
and a copywriter sat at
a typewriter to wait. Sirens
incessantly! As if the whole city afire!
No call as deadline approaching!
Finally! The deathless words:
“It's all confusion here!”
Well, the writer milks out
a few details to assemble a story.
Street Location, what the Fire Chief
blurted, a few names of those
standing around in underwear
and soaked midst black webs
of icy hoses.
We make a story when faced
with the virulence of confusion.
The deal with each other is often
that we're not scorned
for it. With Modern Politics, of course,
that decent bet, too, is off
the technical table.

Testing
-I’ll hafta see what I think I think.
-That’s Synesthesia! You don’t
actually SEE your thinking.
You can feel it, though.
Hmmm, I guess THAT’S syn...
-Uh huh?
-Too!
-I hafta feel what I think I feel? Or...?
-Bingo!
-How much would you take to go away?

Wasting Time With Language
& how rare that is in Speedup America!
-It’s like football.
-How so? What is?
-You’re running with the ball and some oaf hammers you!
-Ouch!
-And you fumble. You jump on it, the ball. And all
the meat wagons do too--those who don’t jump
directly on you! And under there, they punch and
gouge you while others try to rip the ball away!
It’s a horror show–-with stinks!
-I get all that. But you’re comparing it to around HERE?
-Comparing what?
-Football, fumble, dirty shit!
-Who said anything about around here?
-Then, comparing to WHAT?
-Nothing! It’s Football, that’s all.
-But you said like, like, something was LIKE football.
-Sure!
-Well, that’s what I’m trying to find out!
-Good luck with all of that!
-You take the Patience of Job!
-My wife always says that. But, like you, she always says a lot of things.
-Uh huh?
-Says a lot of things.

Losing Bits
Knowing Our Time
“Are you sure you want Glomohs and not Wixters?”
“Yeah, what the fuck!” So Rip had ticked Glomohs.
Everybody went nuts on his Board after!
“We can’t get on! It’s jump though hoop after hoop! Did you change anything?”
“No.”
“Come on! You bastard!”
So he confessed, and had to change it back, not ever knowing what the terms meant.
In a year, he knew what nothing meant.
“I been trained,” he joked.

Confusion
Mid Something or Other
Unsure of what anything means.
Not nihilist who thinks everything means nothing.
He feels there’s meaning he just can’t arrive at.
His train hits final station. He gets off.
It’s Nowhere. Trains forbidden to leave
from there.
