-Abduction?

Don't be ridiculous! They asked
me, I went.

-Who did?

-A...trio. Speaking all together. Singing, sort of.
Well, both.

-Odd!

-I agree. But, really, the only odd moment.

-A normal adventure? Come off it!

-Very much so. So forget the tabloid stuff.
I wasn't examined or probed or violated.

-Then why did they...?

-Never know. When I walked around
the ship I heard whispers of
dark eyes, flashing etc.

-Gypsy?

-There are Rumanians way back. Plus,
I’m hardly a pale beauty.

-More about the ship?

-Was given a flight chair, but
it had no seatbelt or anything.
Gravity held me there I guess.

Anyway, I could walk anywhere,
but the nuclear area which was
signed danger in the ways similar
to here.

-Did you get onto the flight deck?

-Didn't have to. The Captain came
to me, and more than once. He
smoozed around the whole ship.

-Barked commands anyway?

-Through hand signals. Subtle stuff...
which I can't say for my Wily E Coyote

Pajamas.

-A hit with the interstellar gang?

-Nothing ever funnier!

-So they were amused? The ship ran on?
You weren't raped or anything? Where's
the story?

-None. I told you.

-How long were...?

-After, they dropped me here in a weird
vehicle badged as Chevvie. And the
front door lock snapped open by magic,
I walked into the groaning house where
you could hear sleeping like wind through
shutters.

-Time?

-My clock radio showed about an hour elapsed.
But they had said I had spent a whole night and
the next morning.

-Uh huh? Let's go back a bit and...

-No way! Show's over!

-Ah hah! Something not right! Still makes
you queasy!

-No more than usual.

He was a Rusky or Alien, or whatever he was

Had smashed his sort of smallish capsule thing,
but just into the outbuilding her deceased mother
had long ago stored 50s movie magazines in.

They mostly burnt up--no great loss. The garden hose
enough to put the rest, and him, out.

She’s strong, you know, and carried this smoky one to the
other outbuilding with all its wood, and equipment unused
since her daddy left this orbit.

That’s a joke! My husband says I can’t make 'em.

Anyway, by some miracle, his burns not that serious,
believe it or not, and she was nurse’s assistant before
the lumber mill left.

Since the one part of him amazed her, she wasn’t about
to let him go!

Before you say folks’d find out, and the government, well
Harkey’s Knob the absolute loneliest part of this county.

Of course you’d notice the new fellow around when
driving by, but we mind our own business.

After a couple years, he taught the Cedar Crest United
Bible Sunday School. Started using her father’s
woodworking shop too.

They married around in there, he’s Mr Thomas from Cincinnati.

Uh huh? If Cincinnati about a million light fears away!

Well, they did just fine anyways.

But...every ointment gets a fly. Hers was a tumor
like a bowling ball.

So, left us.

He didn’t miss a beat, marrying the bookkeeper
at the hospital.

She has persuaded him to leave his body to science,
though he says with a straight face that he’ll never die.

Good thing. In a hundred years or so, he’ll get to see
the furniture he makes, on Antique Road Show!

Culture

In a Catfish for Breakfast locale
people know a thong or two.

Wrong for the biblical reasons
pulpits rail variously on. And

aesthetic ones: if the wearer
a fat woman or scrawny man.

On Planet Kallikah, all they use!
Except for the absurd suits
officials display greeting our

space persons. Who laugh.
No matter, for there they
understand Earth ways.

Double Boom

announces their return
from space. Last due

to republicans &
democrats. Dwarf

visions echo flatly when
bottom-liners party. It’s

Festival of Ardent Glicks
we're arriving at, back
pockets sliced directly.

Space Coast

Prez coming here to reassure on jobs
being lost due to shuttle phase out.

Many of the reactionary engineers
give not Shit-1 about anybody

else's loss and grief. But,
you know what? I say
preserve their jobs too,

because that's the end I come from.
As did Hubert Humphrey, lampooned
for such by the minuscule group
of Republican wits. Shame we

didn’t have more of him shoving
out the showy corporate whores.
