Systems

They met by chance, and he used the occasion to apologize.

“Growing up in that house. With Mother and Dad only…” she answered, “Forgiveness in short supply.”

Statement comprising her refusal, he said goodbye, and she smirked the same.

Following week, a little lost, he drove
by the house.

As Fate would have it, the Power Steering failed and he
wrenched the car to the curb!

There, fought off a short panic attack.

Soaked with sweat, he restarted.

All Systems Go.

Staying In the Neighborhood

-And that’s not even mentioning the twin
upheavals of your life, Susannah and Margo.

-Widely-spaced.

-Makes no difference. You do realize, of course,
that you were one hundred percent wrong
with both?

-High eighties, I’d say--in the interest of accuracy.

-You should still be apologizing.

-I’m apologized out!

-Then to a higher power! And doing penance!

-Should I walk to the Crestview Recreation Center on my hands and knees?

-I’m thinking of a place with more spiritual heft,
like a St Patrick’s Cathedral.

-Crestview just a short block over.

-Purification should be harder!

-I’ll throw in the Ford Dealer next to it.

Growing Up With Some Help

The Fight

-We were in heavy coats so not as bad. But...
I was sneaky. Tripped him and then couldn’t
stop pounding him. Mr Tessler, the Rec
Supervisor, yanked me off him.

-Terrible. How is...?

-He, like, I don’t know, all sobs.

-Five percent physical injury, ninety five percent
humiliation.

-Yeah? Well, Dad says kids have scrapes.

-Stop! You’re on the hook! You did an awful awful thing!

-Well it’s too late now to...

-Go right now to tell him you’re sorry!

-I don’t know where he lives! We meet at the playground!

-But it’s ten to one he’s on your cell, no?

-(Weakly) Yeah.

-Call him immediately!

-What’ll I say?

-Say? SAY!
