INSUFFERABLE!

too mild a summation of Mark and Bellasy.

We avoid them after the latest incendiary
bout!

Her looks flat gone! And his moroseness
like an extended acid fart!

Then, the miracle!

Under the influence of Dr Kildad Morrisey’s book,
Sign here! AND HERE! , they have completed a
14-page contract covering all.

We’re invited to witness, but not the SS.

Sex Section.

Well, anyway, he has regained some of his
limited fun (more regarded, still, as a
powerfully silent “Hunk”) and she?

Can flip on any rag for Starbucks, and
people stare. Yeah, she’s that beautiful!

Even our Stell, who makes up celebrity women on

Live Your Dream! is astounded at her.

Anyway, they carry around their contract,
discussing it super-calmly.

Boring the shit outa the rest of us...but
this can never change.

They exist for each other. No much room
for even
Fast News At Six, let alone the
rest of us mere mortals.

The Right Agreement

-I’ll tell you one thing, this contract safeguards
me better than one any union could negotiate!

-Even so, you are a slave!

-That’s not soft-pedaled. Mark Hospins is my
Master, a good and grave and fair man.

-Who can beat you?

-That’s hedged round with many rules
I’m quite protected. I’ve even tested him.
Slacked off to see what he’d do.

-And?

-Got whipped. Oh, mostly ritual and a good
talking to.

-This time.

-We even started with a prayer.

-What’s more natural?

A Baby in Something

Just One Crisis

Hopey, somehow, became a sort of project
manager for the new condos being built
for artists.

He had been merely one who scraped a
down-payment for an efficiency apartment.

The Plumbers Union president astounded by pulling

his members from the site!

Shouting at Hopey “It’s a 14E job and you want 14!”

What could that mean? He went into the plans on his
computer, but could find nothing.

Then he became paralyzed. Hours fled. Finally called
the only true adult he knew. A former big man who
knew others. “You sound like a dove that flew into the
side of a building. He looks dead, then staggers
a bit, but in the end, flies away!”

“I’m...looking dead!”

A scheme hatched where this Smit would phone a city bigshot.
In An entirely different department, but he, in turn, knew
who else to call.

Plus, Hopey had to reach as many people as possible
at Licenses and Inspections.

He did, re 14, 14E, and was soaked and dazed at the end.

The following day, the union guy came to his cramped
office and screamed. Hopey screamed back. Both men
grew exhausted and the union chief finally whispered,
“We’ll all come back tomorrow, but you’re absolutely
assuring me the work lands between 14 and 14E.
I don’t want any freakin legalities!”

Hopey phoned his new mentor that night to thank him.
He sensed an atmosphere of patient realism, and thus
exclaimed “I know. I know! I’m a baby!”

“Everybody’s a baby in something. You grow up
because people depend on you.”

“Don’t! Don’t depend on me! Ever! I can’t fuckin stand it!”

“Do you believe in God?”

Dead air, and then “No.”

“Too bad.”

Institution Evolving

The Signing

“The pussy Democrats made me write that in!”

Declared My Big Man! I was glad they did. If I’m to be
beaten by him, I didn’t want it indiscriminate, in
a temper tantrum.

So I signed. TV made their usual hoopla: “First slave
in 150 years blah blah. And white!”

Blue Cross Blue Shield better than I had at the mill.

Vacation days, sick leave, etc. Not bad.

So, you DO obey! No discussion. Hey! It’s been a
masquerade up to now anyway.

This strips it bare.
