Dated Hippie Tries Parody

Chestnuts roaring
on a roasting fire,

Jack Frost clawing
at my nuts.

Tiny Tots with their tablets aglow
shrieking at primitive figures
before they murder same. So?

Said before and further thus
what the hey!
This time For Real

Merry Freakin Christmas
anyway!

Here and There

“Some Yule!
Grunting at stool!”

Said by 2 simultaneously.

Geraldine Tell Roselli and Hgg74.

Two planets, two festivals.

Allow some translation freedom.
Rhymes a wilderness!

Otherwise too complicated,
not to mention different stinks.

One Christmas

the Army gave me
a five-pound box of nuts.

Put it under my bunk
and took it out every once
in a while to chew.

Meditatively. The box
announcing, first, its provenance.

Something like

Nut Assortment. Grade-A, M1 A1

and on and on in chains of numbers.
Stenciled.

Every system must put nuts
in their place.

The sitting and chewing was not
a social act. Other troopers distantly

doing their things. Blurs. Well, any life
lends definitions of loneliness.

One of mine.

Upon a Midnight Clear

Shortest Fable

Every Christmas, enough
being enough, Micks and
Sally gave some individual
gifts away.

Until the one when they
gave each other away.

When It’s Christmas-Time Down South

“Show a little pantie, Auntie!”

“Quench it! You whole damn lot of sex fiends!”

So...she left with an uninvited one.

‘Crusher the Crasher’ later married into
another, decidedly lower, branch of our
family.

Professors should study to affirm it’s human.

The Christmas Party, very nearly shot

-I missed the young people?

-Yeah, my girls left with swarthy strangers.

-Seduction From the Seraglio?

-Shut up and drink!

-Agreed! I'm catching up.

-Hurry!

Power

The one single desired tidings of joy and bitterness, as she had recently staged a breakup with her forever boyfriend.

The children wanted to play with their new toys to the point of smashing them against others, and tears and exhaustion.

The men to return to the football game on the tube as it wandered to its artless conclusion.

And drink.

But the women, gathering torn wrappings, needed
to depart, resigned to a two-hour process thereof
before finally getting on the road.

Enter Aunt Dot, unshakable resolver of impasses!

The last car left fourteen and a half minutes later.

She freelances also.

Assing Around Xmas

-Those categories too narrow: naughty or nice.

-Have you amplified?

-The former most definitely.

-Latter?

-That’d disgust me. The last thing a relationship
or country needs.

-Drag politics into it!

-Let’s DO Drag next year!

Getting Along

Three Christmas Paragraphs

"God bless us every-onnnnne!"  Santa, in Bermuda shorts, falling
into The Diplomat's pool.

Hoad met the last bus, but no Marie. Back to Kool Kup, his cell on.
There, the few speculated on what could've happened.

After Mom's death, the original garage was sold. Now, Walt presides over The Tuneup Center’s purchase by Dollar Bonanza. That money gets Dad into Pine Murmur, where he insists on Christmas, Bitsy coming early to cook. And drink: "Somebody's car was always more important than the two of us!" Dad says no cars would’ve meant no college! Walt smooths it over, and they eat, then exchange gifts. Next year, his place!--Dr Mauro expecting Lornette to be discharged from Bide a Bit soon. Bitsy starts crying because her recently-departed Rence had been the only man she truly ever...! Dad switches off the chandelier so they can enjoy the tree.

An Outcome and a Story

Mac and Jilly

“How could you live so long and learn so little?”

As parting shots go, a near winner.

When Mackey quoted her to Doc, retired psychiatrist who
still kept half a hand in, he pondered over coffee and skim.

Finally saying "You're a classic car."

Mackey, still smarting, said “I know what I know!”

Doc, ignoring that, went on: "But a barn find. Needing
thorough restoration."

"You're kidding!"

"Nope."

"I wouldn't give her the satisfaction!"

"Forget Jilly, she's old news."

"But...if I? Where would I start?”

“My background says with the mental, but there's the
physical too. Get fixed up there for starters. You've
neglected a lot.”

“With the mental, would YOU...?”

“No way! Retired. A younger man or woman, much
more patient. We're looking at two years. And, as I said,
that’s just the motor.”

“Why don't I just forget it?”

“An option.”

“There'll be other Jillies, I’m confident!”

Were, in a manner of speaking. She came back.

The best they can do presently is tireless work for Toys For Tots
at Christmas.

The rest of the year they mostly fight.

Two barn finds, never restored. But they know it.

A Christmas Song

Actually smelled
chestnuts roasting

in New Haven. Drink-
ing club, ad hoc,
peripatetic. After

evening’s circuit, hit
the funky street.

Hot dog truck:
spice rockets on

soggy rolls with
incendiary mustard.

Aforementioned
chestnut roaster,

their blackening, be-
fore splitting on
a charcoal bed.

Our favorite, raw
clam man, opening

quick dozen under
open gas lamp, dousing

with chili and Mulligan--
stale beer with red pepper.

One upended the shell and
each slid down maw, leaving
sea flats and grains of sand.

This a whacked version of Where
are the snows of yesteryear?
Yeah, but substitute stomachs.

My Christmas Story

Somehow my parents knew a family as poor
as we once had been.

Visited Christmas afternoon, after my tearing open innumerable gifts, including a tripod-mounted
machine gun which spat out sparks.

While the parents hoisted a few to the coming year,
I played with the boy. He had received two gifts,
toy cars, a blue and a red.

You must be a racer guy and I'm another racer guy who...
ran the script along with sound effects and real crashes.

Minor disagreements followed, but patched up
for the game's sake.

All in all, though, we got along, and when adult
conversation was finally ditched in order for
my parents to leave, I was still charged up from
the action with my new friend.

He tried giving me one of the cars, my choice.
