Loud Harp

or Inner Travail of the Outspoken

The man who did what he could
died mildly.

In a shocker, the Catholics
gave him a spiffy funeral mass.

A last-minute convert, and his wife
contributed a badminton court to
the priests.

Friend, Denholm O’Toole, or Den-O,
spat that “They’ll chase a cock, this time
feathered.”

He was through with the corrupt Church!
Throw him into the ground when his
time came!

But wife Ginger wouldn't allow it.

Swartzy's wife, Ruth, had offered him their
Temple over the phone before Ginger's strict
ecclesiastical pronouncement. Lightheartedly!

Den-O just coming off a torsion bowel week
at home, nurse Ginger applying Irish Granny
treatments mostly.

Anyway, Ruth undeniably beautiful.

"A thing of beauty is a Jew forever!" he later
shouts to Ginger, earning an extra weekend
of renewed bowel wrench from the Hebrew God.

He's back at work. Fishbelly white. Looking saintly.

Combat Ready

Laurel Josephine, aka LJ or Mixxy

The last alluding to her propensity
to mix it up, quarrel.

So when the coiffed religious headliner
came to her college, she was nothing if
not primed to deal with his load of shit!

She got him on the sweaty run, but he did
make one interesting point. That her liberal
stance took of what she accused him of:
Doctrine.

So she vowed after not to be doctrinal.
Losing thereby some of her Lefty pals.

Well, truth be told, she lost her few
friends on the other side also.

So, she reasoned, must be doing
something right.

She thought she'd go into the Sciences,
but that proved surprising political also.

Maybe just the Age.

The men came and went, lying.

She ended in Education, counseling Junior
High kids. She had an affinity for their
search for justice, and their vulnerability
mid exploding hormones.

The other teachers got married and she
became the durable bridesmaid in the
terrible dress. A stale idea, and she got a
kick out of it.

Besides, people of her age danced a
fury at weddings. And she loved that!

Enter Whatsisface. What she called him
for a good while. He was a realist and
expected no more of her than her self.

How to relate, she mused, to someone
not a goddamn fuckin fool!

They had fun. That was the ticket!

Then...the discussion re marriage.

Not for them!

And, then, for them.

Biggest discussion took place at a
weekend at the Jersey Shore.

There they actually took the misty
afterglow walk along the beach, hand
in hand, but didn't fall embracing
into the surf.

Rather, she performed a solo dip,
nude, laughing uproariously all the
while at the previous movie stereotype
of it!

“Take the vaseline off the lens, assholes!”
roared she over the loud waves.

At any rate, the two realists started
writing their own ceremony. Leaving out
the crap.

Though his mother, a self-confessed
Old Fashioned Girl, actually tried to get
him to squeeze “to obey” back in there.

Fat chance!

Preparing

-Rebel without a cause? Guilty for a good part of
the time. But, often WITH one and pursuing with
righteous fire, whatever the outcome!

-Uh huh? Devil taking the hindmost? But, more often,
the mishmash of everyday existence with the wheels
slipping and sliding. Gray and more gray!

-That too.

-Hey! It adds up to personality! So what? You got one.
So has everybody else!

-More...than that, somehow...I’m....

-on the downhill slide. Finally got here, and trying to
figure it all out before the humongous blackness

-I’ll buy that.

-Well, don’t bother. Enjoy the view!

-Next you’ll be telling me smell the roses.

-All of wisdom in that little imperative!

-Tomorrow.

Raising Bridge or Lowering River

Roper got sick of doing things the same way.

But when he changed, too disorienting.

To the point of illness: queasiness and unrelenting fear.

Well, enough was enough. He had tried when nobody
else would!

So, attempted switching back.

No go. A surprise that the government and corporations*
militated against it. Adoring status-quo usually!

His personal channel popped on, and a committee of professors
explained that his new way, difficult as it was proving, was the
future, that he was a pioneer, a rebel in the accepted sense that
the government was now mysteriously encouraging.

A box slid into he upper right of the screen. Mr Hepplewhite
telling him not to report to work. Congratulatory? Terrified?

A knock! NOW what? Just a Rick Kelsey, explaining that wife
and children have been removed, so don't bother yelling at
them for breakfast.

"Just to relatives. Erase the visions of terminal camps."

He'd be glad to eat their eggs instead. And clean up.
He’s detailed to help "Ropes" in every way. Later they'll
watch videos further elucidating the Authorities' new position.

For now they'll chant slogans. Those always relax.

Especially before eating.

(*Some would say they're the same thing, but such ones have disappeared.)

Seeing Eye to Eye. Not.

-Hey! That’s me! Rebel without a cause!

-More like without a clue.

-You’re from the impotent humor section
of the family.

-You came in here and tried to destroy
our little institutions, with nothing to
take their place.

-Like what?

-Marriage.

-A bourgeois idiocy prompting a drunken orgy
of gluttony!

-What’s better?

-Anything!

-People devise things over centuries.

-The more reason to rip them out!

-We’re not getting anywhere.

-Who made that a goal?

Was a Rebel,

announce I from
time to time.

Seinfeld counters such
a class of utterance
(paraphrasing) No,

Johnny Yuma is a rebel.
You’re a nut!
Hey! On oc-

casions didn’t really speak up,
for shyness, though these duds

somewhat balanced by shooting
off my mouth sans any substance

through other crazy frames.
But so what? 300 estimable
average in baseball.

Jerry's comment still gives
me no end of amusement
in itself, at myself.
