The Comic

Dilsey put on some Franz Schubert.

“We used to call him Frank at the Point!” All Dave’s fatigued
jokes considered funny again, he had grown popular.
Now he exaggeratively saluted “Colonel Franz Schubert!”

Had to turn some invitations down: Health.

After Laurette died, his former wife came back to care
for him. In a paid capacity.

“It’s a pity I’ll expire when I just hit my groove!”

Franz hopped and skipped on the turntable.

“Isn’t everything?” Dilsey shook her head. “But it's nice you
still have LPs.” She chose The Beach Boys now.

Dave sang along with the line They keep their BOYfriends
warm at night!

“Weren’t YOU a California gal back when I met you, Dils?”

“Yeah, but was a territory then!”

“Whoa! I'm the funny one!”

“We both are.”

Plagues, Discussed

-Bubonic Plague in California.

-Comes from bites of fleas living on rats.

-So, go after the vector, yes?

-Rats in major cities vastly outnumber people.

-If capable of organizing, they could have their own mayor and board of aldermen.

-On the federal level, they could take us to war in Iraq.

(Note: Word for word variation of a
2007 post--depraved motive?)

The Return

- (sings) California there I went. Right there where they
love all bent.

-Well you’re back now. And it’s zero at the bone
with all
that brutal ice.

-I don’t know if I left Bruce or Betty.

-That’s okay. You’re neither one yourself,
nor both, so you survived.

-Do they still have confession?

-Yeah, but where do you start?

- ...confused.

-Not a sin. But Rome wants exactness.
And preferably, number.

-Why have they made it so hard?

-Priests gone tone deaf from mere melody.
