Right Aquarium, Wrong Fish

Don’t ever vary routine?

Perhaps so.

Unless you can take the strain!

So prosaic at the start. I tack a half
block onto my daily walk.

Tires me a bit, so rest at the rear
of an open auditorium. Much actual
flag-waving onstage, and the right
vibrations.

Thus I’m comfortable...but must pee.
On the way I’m besieged by lights
and shouts.

Mistaken for Big Shot!

I laugh “Right Aquarium, Wrong Fish!”

Then, leaving the restroom, I’m jostled
by a man showing me that he’s
carrying. Heavily!

“Pickles leaves us if you DON’T
say the word!”

I escape, but one “Pickles” Torineau
assassinated following morning
on I-4!

Immediately go to Police?

What for? It’s exciting now!

Every man she knew

sleazed into sex.

Even the non-lovers with their sixth grade hints
showing the absolute glee of being dirty.

She gave up. Dismissed the lot.

Threw herself into work!

And then met Rory.

Entirely healthy, caring, fun! Wholesome.
With caressing words!

After a few months of undirty sex and
the warmest affection, anxiety flooded.

“Rory,” she informed him, patiently,
“it's past time for you to do something evil!”

A Dolf That Will Live In Infamy!

not quite

 -What're YOU? The little HITLER
around here?

He had heard that before, but
seldom ordered anyone around
irrationally.

Almost never. The Employee Reports,
in fact, asked for more assertion!

Oh well, he was mostly a solo act.
Troubleshooting Auditor sent in
when others smelled fish, but couldn't
pin the figures down.

Now he had to jolly Andi, his live-in
girlfriend. He did that pretty well--
for a tinpot dictator.

Then she insisted he slink around like
Chaplin or Groucho Marx, heiling the cats,

who popped in and out, enjoying the game.

It all ended in laughter. Whereupon he
did his best at sex.

-It's a strange world, and we're strange!

Andi always ended in such a formulation
before they slept.

Staring into the mirror like a Swedish actress.

He told her he had fun with it.

She informed him that he was her

Snuggle Bunny!

Soon asleep in tiny breaths, the cats

joining them one by one.

The Meticulous Wall

Handymen

I wasn't a Linger-Some when Mark
built his wall. Not even here then.

But very shortly after I moved in, it was
informally named for me. Since I sat there
every morning it didn't rain with croissant
and coffee, cigarette and Times.

God’s in His sky and all’s right with the world!

Mark’s quarrel with the board had nothing to do
with the wall or me.

But he was transferred to Hop Scotch, a mental
facility in the chain.

Took the wall.

Well, not really, but you'd think it.

It was gone from the entrance of the
rose garden. So cleanly, no trace existed.

I first thought I had wandered to the wrong
part of the garden that chill, gray-wisp morn.

Well, sad for me, and a disappointment for
everybody.

It liked their eye.

Anyway, so meticulous. Removing each
rock, each pebble, each wedge, etc.

Mark’s something else!

“And in the moonlight!” Clara Barkin held,
though nobody knew just when. But then
she whispered “We're still looking at things
in a typically old-fashioned way.

What if he just disappeared the wall?”

She was at a party once and he passed
a tablecloth over her, and she found
herself home drinking tea, with
Clancy the cat nuzzling for crumbs
of Pepperidge Farms Milano Cookies.

“Well a magician is not a wizard.”

“This one is!”

“Well, whichever way he took back the wall,
I'd like it restored here!”

So, both of us worked on the politics of
the thing, persuading Rickey Speller to
take Mark's place at Hop Scotch, and having
him assume Rickey's place back here with the
mere neurotics.

Done deal! and I rushed to the garden and there
it...wasn’t. Oh well...gathering up my Times
I had dropped alongside a few crackers and the
styrofoam cup half filled with leftover breakfast
coffee.

You can’t make things happen with a halfass
show of ritual.

When I had done that, I kind of staggered back
and fell onto the wall!

There I thought: Did Mark do his other handymna
chores or merely wizard them? Didn’t seem fair.

Dates of a Day

The Bachelor Rises

to sniff his shorts.
“They smell of me
and not of pee.”

Dinner with K last night
proved icy cold. Cross
her off! R will set up Coffee

later. Any fattening Danish
she desires: it’s Dutch.

That flops since her mother
requires her for a rush
trip to Arthritis Doc. Thus

he phones L for a walk through
the park. “It’s so beautiful
this time of year!”

“Isn’t it beautiful?” she asks therein.
“Yeah it’s beautiful,” he affirms.

Adding It Up

The Stretch

So long you dif-
fidented about. Oh

there were highlights:
your standing up! May-

be 2%, but beats most.
Hey, kids to raise, and wife
and jobs to negotiate. Want

courage? Should have been fly
on wall: so have glimpsed

scant few glints amidst
the long cowardice. But

even on flashy ramparts,
sandwiches get sent out for.

Routiners

suffer when necessary
product discontinued.
Nobody has it! To Net,

place in far Oregon.
Order and wait.

Will it prove malarkey?
Question for small bore
capitalism. Large...?
