Picnic

Merrill wondered aloud as to
his courage. Or lack thereof.

Judd laughed that anyone who
had lived with Sissy for a year
earned the medal exempting
him from all shaky masculine doubt!

That joke proved contagious, even
degrading into drool.

Jeremy, our Brit, scalded the American
way of turning everything into a joke!

But Heather informed him that any
race that said so many asshole things
like The Battle of Waterloo was won
on the playing fields of Eton, well…!

Carla pipes up then.

As a lesbian.

What else?

Here and Hear

-Everyone’s afraid, but I deal with it.

-Oh? How?

-By singing.

-Uh huh? Any type of…?

-All give form. Make you here.

-H--e-r-e  or H-e-a-r?

-Both.

-Do the words of the song help?

-They can.

-Inspire?

-Possibly, but...more the resonance
of the whole business.

-You as transmitter then?

-That’s the best.

The Man Who Worked a Perfect

Piece of Four

Never been done!

And nobody knew or cared.

How could they, since he started Monday,
finished the preceding Tuesday?

Thus he ended before he began-–but that’s
too flip to say. We always look for something
like that.

At any rate, he forever picks out ways that
no other human can relate to.

We make our choices in Heaven and Earth!

The best of us never whining about inevitable
consequence.

And loneliness.

Long Miracle

-Chickenhawks had no end of sharp-as-a-tack
advice to those willing to risk their lives.

-Whatever happened to them, anywayz?

-They're still around. Advising your KID now.

-And theirs remain safe, family and militant gombahs huddled round?

-They wouldn't have it any other way!

-Why do cowardly assholes have such longevity in America?

-It's our greatest feature!

Adding It Up

The Stretch

So long you dif-
fidented about. Oh

there were highlights:
your standing up! May-

be 2%, but beats most.
Hey, kids to raise, and wife
and jobs to negotiate. Want

courage? Should have been fly
on wall: so have glimpsed

scant few glints amidst
the long cowardice. But

even on flashy ramparts,
sandwiches get sent out for.

Profile in Courage

Consider the chap

on a business campus,

clutched by some in-

testinal horror.

Genial to the other drones,

even fun, he takes a post

lunch walk alone.

and in a copse, next to

a brook that burps

agreeably, folds.

Quite   in    half.

Back to talk of sports

or celebrity gossip so

inane it can hurt.

Still, of course, in pain. Per-

petually, midst men and

women at extracting work.
