Returning
They meet after a long while,
returning gifts to Home Depot.
Later, their serving Elf had lost
a couple of steps at Santa's
Coffeehouse, so she remarks
"We were such Idiots!"
"Age appropriate."
"I don't think I like that.
It implies I'm never really
calling the shots."
"You dance. We danced."
"I'd like to try The Lindy."
"Just need a partner."
"Not really."

Revues
We all liked the idea of the Revue.
First up was Georgie, with FEET!
She had been a Radio City Music Hall
Rockette. Then migrated to Vegas for years,
perhaps a few too many.
Dancing just great! But even more interesting,
her extended family, and she introduces each
vital youngster! From three quite captivating
fathers.
Second, lifetime police officer, Jeremy Carruthers. Finally, Chief of Brenley Falls, where he whipped an indifferent lot into shape, and instituted some innovative forms of actual clarity.
Chief had a heart, also. And helped many criminals back to decency.
He gave a slide show, nothing flashy, but steady
and wholesome.
Last for this week. THROUGH A GLASS, DECEPTIVELY. Hoddings Kraft. Noir film. Banking.

The Blend
“Let’s see now, which one are you?”
He’s addressing JMM, Jesus Meek and Mild.
“Oh yes, here it is on my clipboard. You’re
WASM, Wise Ass Smash Mouth.”
Thus the new orderly mixed up the men,
and they went ahead and played the new parts.
The physicians would have easily straightened
it out, but they were replaced by Indian Doctors,
speaking an English that went out with Kipling.
They brought with them, also, tea-times, and
often had Earl Grey and biscuits as the patients rioted.
All not chaos, however, since the highly-organized
Dr Caruthers Caruthers brought onboard to shepherd
this insane anachronism.
He switched back JMM and WASM for one. And decreed
no cricket until after visiting hours. So...smooth running!
And for years.
Exacted its toll from him, and he took up a sort of fat,
middle-aged ballet that had been sweeping fitness circles.
The dumpier female Indian Doctors joined him, but plantar
fasciatus retired him from the art, and one of them assumed
the male role in productions.
The patients brought in, and JMM and WASM displayed genuine grace.
Perpetually the jokes about inmates taking over the asylum,
of course, but they manage a blend at Whispering Falls.

Oh How We Danced...!
Mr Cheap Solutions
had his daughter and her inattentive beau write
their own marriage ceremony, prompted in its
less-than-moving recitation on the Great Day by
an inexpensive clergyman of approximate sobriety.
The reception catered by the latest immigrant group,
whose cuisine consisted of lumps of dough laced with
minced garbage.
Their native champagne tasted of burnt matches, but
effectively lit the guests, who danced furiously to a
half-gypsy band.
When the starving musicians broke to devour the
"food," flasks of sulfuric fruit liqueur were passed
around.
Anyway, It proved, all-in-all, our Cheapskate's Paradise!
Trifecta of penurious, gastric, and inebriated.
Okay okay! Just my point of view.
One Academic Couple pronounced it cultural and lovely
and memorable!
Another trifecta! This time of the Deluded. And what
would we do without them?
For one thing, they’re guarding the whole concept of LOVE!

In There
"It’s too bad you can’t de-install a wife," remarked
Clancy at his computer. Who had none, but liked the idea.
His point of reference was Carlotta, one of his
waitpersons, married twice and widowed the same.
First, Cardiac, second Big C.
“You can always give reasons for things, but she’s
a Fatal Woman! Archetype!” maintained my Host
at his Guinness tap.
My tour ending in Copenhagen, and I had hopped
over to Ireland to what I called The Repair Zone.
I do the lighting for music groups, last the Middling
Maniacs. Nothing was middling, especially the drugs.
As did Carlotta, I stood out. Being of Italian
extraction in my case, and Hungarian Gypsy in hers.
Back to the States for a series of one-night stands.
“Nostalgia Ninety Tour.” Nearly a year, and worn out.
Then to Clancy and Carlotta. Married! Would you believe?
“I decided to take a chance on her black magic. Got some
of me own!”
They did a lot of joking this way, and Carlotta claimed
of me: “Maybe thiz new man, he iz next!”
"Well, you gotta kill ME first, and that ain’t gonna happen!”
maintained Clancy.
What happened is that Carlotta, after I had taken an
assignment in Germany, died in an auto accident.
Clancy emailed as to always always having driven
her before!
When I got back there, the new staff member, Bridget,
had taken over. Literally. A bossy, if beautiful, redhead.
“Absolutely no romance!” she swore to everyone.
Clancy whispered that he was afraid of her.
But there was a romantic aspect. She danced after
closing time, solo. Usually enacting her previous life.
One night, Clancy was asked to join in, which he
did reluctantly. Playing her dead husband, an
American like me, helicopter pilot shot down
in Afghanistan.
The next time they danced, she acted out Carlotta!
He, her two husbands. They were very good, my
dancers, a rough draft of ballet.
“I’m quitting the dance racket!” laughed Clancy the
following evening. Or she’ll have ME be Carlotta!
I'm making up reasons to get out of the weirding
there, when a week later, she compels me to dance in
his place. But...warmer.
Well, story short. He takes me in as his partner after
she and I marry. She dances solo redhead, taking all
the parts. I’m too busy. When she plays me...!
Well, creepy.
By now, I’m bringing in small rock groups from all over
Europe, and lighting them. Business has tripled.
Bridget has taken over the management, and Clancy and
I are pretty much PR men, often traveling separately.
No more dancing for anyone!
But it’s in there.

Opposites Attract
For those who like music with their dancing,
arrangements can be made to play melodies.*
Renata needed no music, dancing every evening
while watching herself in her studio’s mirror.
So, she was fat and had just the one leg?
Grace was entirely possible.
As were grace notes, such as evinced by redoubtable Sweeney.
Who was fat and had one leg.
Opposite amputations.
“Darling mine!” he very nearly sang, “We’ll strap together
to make one powerhouse performance!”
She still didn’t know, kept imagining how it’d look in the mirror
as she studied herself there.

Trade For Pot of Gold?
Choreography Up Big
-Then they go into a great snatching dance, where they race hither and yon and snatch at things.
This time they're bellboys, and it's luggage.
-Uh huh? And where is the Big Snatch?
-She's checking in...so slowly lifts a fleshy arm...they drop the bags and instantly slide in to her on their knees!
-Worship mode? How could she have waited so patiently? If bullshit were electricity, they could power every theater on Broadway!
-In a stranger, yet parallel vein, Fred Allen cracked "If Adam were a chorus boy, there'd be no human race!"
-We lucked out then.

All’s Well
Good Guy and Good Gal
go to a party
and nod off.
After that, every-
one does.
Drinks grow flat
and chips wilt.
Hostesses speeds back
from 7-11 w/ad-
ditional Diet Coke.
The sight brings her tears.
Her guides never detailing
how to keep people awake.
But she rallies: “Hey!
What is this? The Night
of the Living Dead?”
Her boyfriend, Murph,
shoves the sodas in
the frig while muttering
of his weird dream.
“I hope about me!”
“No way! For you’re my true
dream everyday!” His bullshit
revs up all, and they rouse
now to dance. An awfully fast
one, so some fall down,
the start of a victorious Do!

When the Idiots Started Dancing
G misperceived, thinking that non-idiots
had to be invited.
But L reassured. -Think about it! Their
managing something like that? Be a
monster screw-up!
-I suppose.
-Nah! You just go.
He went.
-So? What transpired at the nitwits' bash?
-Surprising. It felt wonderfully...freeing!
-No surprise at all. It's our intellect gives us
most of the problems.
-But, old clothes next time. All that drool
flying around!
-Uh huh? And why this...sudden cloud
drifting in just this half-second?
-An anxiety.
-Worry not! Nobody will think YOU'RE an idiot.
-I know. This is America. With every pleasure,
a...soul-dig.
-How awkward! But, everywhere that Puritans sway. Banish it from what's left of your mind. It's a long process all in all: Idiot-Making.
-I'm glad of that!
-The mistake you made is not hanging out
with them sooner!

Waltzing Sans Matilda
They had to learn, so
we had the hairy miners
dancing with each other.
“Is this a dangerous thing?”
queried Squinty. “Just
till we get women,”
answered I.
“That’ll be whores at first.
Then the pinched-nose Churchies.
Don’t know which more vile.”
“Well now let’s show them how.
It’s just lurching out there!”
