The Outrageous Woman

never ceased offending.

She began trying not to,
attending a class in
making friends.

Thereafter, gifted five new
acquaintances with a
bobble-head doll.

Each, placed in dark
isolation in varied domiciles,
moved continuously.

Though never activated.

Of Cats in Misery

Rickery’s Birthday again and we
must hear of wasted talent, a life
thrown away!

Mostly in Music, a field where
no human has shown less
aptitude.

Voice, specifically. Put you
in mind of cats in misery.

Would truth help?

Sitting him down and talking etc?

Seldom, in parallel cases.

That’s what friends for then?
To lie?

Here and there.

Language of Friends

-You go right ahead and control EVERYTHING!
You think!

-Thank you! I so yearn for your approval!

-You’re gonna die and won’t know what
the fuck happened!

-Does anybody? Besides, you any better?

-Worse!

Stay Misty For Me

--or the odds matter

Misty a bright acquisition!

Judge was optimistic about her
sticking.

He gave it 70-30.

But after the first week, and her
pouting after he couldn't obtain
tickets for Slammo & Chutzy...?

50-50.

After all, wasn't real anger, but
severely funked disappointment.

Even odds held another week.

Then she announced she was moving
to Freeport, and, thank you, needed
no help in doing it.

“Let's stay in touch!” brightened he
anyway.

“I'll be awful awful busy!”

So, not a chance. Plus, she put on her
determined face. Which, pretty as she
was, could still horrify children and
small dogs.

Well...plenty other games in town!

He was a realist in realizing the breakup
was partially his fault.

15-85.

But, really, what a Foursquare Bitch!

He had actually lucked out!

His new date, Larsy, asked him repeatedly,
"What did you say?"

She out-vagued the field.

Odds would take some thought in her case.

For their next good time, she showed up at Early
and Marcom, instead of Four Corners!

How long before she’d forget his very existence?

Anyway, he finally decided on 100-1 they’d
ever arrive anywhere.

About right. She finally left with a high junkie
as woefully scattered.

Our hero, yes, cried.

Isn’t it the accumulation of things that leads
us there?

10-1 we’ll all do it at some murky stage.
Or acute.

Will of the Almighty? I heard God and the
Angels washed their hands of relationships
worldwide.

Satan, though, keeps his oar in.

Propelling his Rowboat of Fools!

Details in the Locale

Fixing Up

-His girlfriend dumped him so
ceremoniously–-everything but
a brass band!--hardly a corner
in this fair city where they’re
not on Humiliation Watch.

-There to laugh at him uproariously?

-The poorer sectors, yes.

-For richer?

-Thrusts, sophisticated and exquisitely
cruel.

-So, bottom line, everywhere he goes he’s
shamed? Piling on to his wretchedness?

-Whammo! Or weewee.

-People are disgusting!

-Since he won’t but speak two words
or so in his depression, I’m trying
to fix him up with Jolly Judy.

-She’ll lift him!...or talk him to death.

-She’s the only choice. A normal girl
not into therapy, but fun!

-How come you always need to have
fun with other folks, and they’re usually
the worst?

-What’s that movie? Death takes a Holiday?
Well, people let go of their sour funks from
time to time.

-Catch ‘em on the upswing?

-The only way!

-Is the ordinary condition misery?

-Screw you!

The Definition

-They call me dumb. Everybody calls me dumb.

-Okay, now let’s just examine what that means?

-You’re right about that. They’re awfully mean!

-No, you misunderstood.

-See!

The Weekend

-Her monosyllables pollute
my poor brain still.

-Never embark on a long
weekend with a stranger.

-We left in icy rain.

-That's just climate. How
about the rest?

-I worked even harder on
conversation. A flop. Sex came
after, anyway.

-Glimmer of hope?

-Puppetry.

-Wash it away. All of it.
Never happened!

-Nearly there, but the gods
totally bored, so she's come
to work in my department.

-Not good! Do you two speak
of your wingless lovebird time?

-Just to guffaw.

-Don't try again!

-Inevitable.

-As in failure?

-Wouldn't want to disappoint
myself.

-Life! Grim grim life!

-You can be my biographer.

-I'll tell you what! I gather
two more alleged men, and we
go to a ballgame.

-But all we do is laugh.

-Yeah!

Of Love, Possessed

-His arm perpetually around
my shoulder!

-Affection?

-Ownership.

-Is there a way...?

-Away! Him. You. Everybody.
Every damn thing!

-What will all that solve?

-My self!

-Temporarily maybe.

-I'll fight for every minute!

Struggle or No

-F. Scott Fitzgerald: “Life is essentially a cheat and its conditions
are those of defeat; the redeeming things are not happiness and
pleasure but the deeper satisfactions that come out of struggle.”

-Thanks for quoting that. Let’s call up the gang and go sledding.Jeanette got those huge thermoses for hot chocolate.

And we’ll sing later into the super-frozen air! While the bonfire pops and pops!

-It all sounds too good. And nice. Any struggle in there?

-Not a bit of it!

Hers is the world and all that’s in it

Number

Our Shellzy got a number.

DF, or Defunct Professor, claims
that she's already famous, but
this should do it.

The number is expressed in a
formula few can begin to grasp.

Last week she went to Princeton,
and people flew in from Japan.

All this for one unexpected property
her number seems to have. Or not.

It's, of course, so incredibly large
that you'd think all kinds of elements
in there.

She's taking a break from it, down
to Cocoa Beach to help her sister prepare
children for new schools.

Her health will depart if she doesn't
shoulder different things.

But, once that's done, a visit to Florida
Tech in Melbourne, their largest computer.

After, a few anointed NASA people wish
to chat.

Ben, our Ben, who struggles with the figures
in his bank statement, desperately wants us
to retain her womanly properties.

But DF shrugs that we lost her long ago.

Just Life

Rita claimed: I’m exhausted! I am TOTALLY
exhausted!

Rodney laughed that “You’re always totally
exhausted.” Asked Mac how he lived with her.

“Carefully. But best is crying a full hour at the
kitchen table.”

“That’s BEST?”

“Next day she’s really wound up to DO something!”

“Purgation!” Rodney pontificated.

“I AM!” Rita answers Mac, reminding both men, too, the conversation’s about her.

“Some of the burden YOU shoulder here!”--
Rodney half-kidding Mac.

“Just life.”

Our Proper Young Woman

Isn't. Just the once.

Resulting in tears thereafter.

The Artist builds her a Mask of Shame.

And she, heaving, soaks that.

Most of the rest of us act badly then.

Rip off the mask and piss on it!

There had been some drinking.

“So, there's no Moral Code anymore?”-from
our Supreme Ethicist later.

"There may be, but we prefer our woman
to your sick ideas."

Those Early Moments

-Uh uh. Double dating off. Giselle left.
And in a fit you wouldn't believe!

-Try me.

-Nah. I don't need "How stupid you are!"

-I'd never say that. Your case is too tangled.

-I even took a course this time!

-What was that about?

-(sings) Feelings. Feeee-eee-eee-eee-eeelings!

-Warn me if ever you do that again.

-No Sinatra I?

-Some are born talented. Some achieve...

-Yeah, yeah? And some never arrive!

-Hey! Not to mind! For every man there's
a woman. And yours is being discharged
from a nuthouse as we speak.

-Is she violent?

-Not at first.

-I live for those early moments. The warmth.
And sex, even.

-Assorted roses a good idea. Bound to be ONE
variety she likes.

-I've made a note!

-Ah you're a good-hearted lad! But if you
didn't have bad luck you'd have none
at all.

-Tomorrow is another day!

-And another and another and...

-Heart for every fate!

-Just stop it!

City School

-Hey, let me buy you a Coke!

-No thank you.

-The machine’s here and I got the dollar.
Just...feed it in here. Your religion says okay, no?

-It’s okay, but...why?

-Because you’re too hurt to say the word hurt.

Ancient Transgressions

-When they still delivered in this neighborhood, went out of a morning to get the milk. Bottle showed black and white, all splotchy.
-Defective? Off?
-Sin.
-Wow! Recall your particulars?
-Blocked to this day.
-What a Catechismal doozy! I'm envious! But...you had Confession. Could be absolved.
-Never took, even up to this more ambiguous time.
-So, really, we got a kind of Major League Sinner here!--if I'm not mistaken. And how does Jill-Ann...?
-She's as pure as the driven snow!
-How nice for you?
-...before the road crew rumbles past, plowing huge
ice boulders into your driveway.
-And making it difficult to get around?
-You don't get around Jill-Ann!

Who’s Crackers?

-Well I know that YOU’RE crazy.

-We always say that to each other, but...quantify!

-One a scale of one hundred...with...?

-Top being totally bananas!

-I assign you seventy-one.

-You’re kidding! That’s down the homestretch!

-Not at all. Quarter pole. Your future ahead of you.
Murkily. Wet track, you see!

-Sixty-four I’m saying for you, another Mudder.

-Not as coated as you.

-Nope. I’ll be relying on you as I disintegrate further.

-And we’ll both be relying on Stella and Norma.

-My Norma for normal?

-Close to it.

-I’m sorry, but I don’t wanna rely on your Stella.

-Bossy?

-An understatement.

-Doesn’t affect me since I stopped listening.

-Shhhh! They always say we don’t listen.

-The girls have neurotic quiddities, though, and deserve
a number therefore.

-Quite fair. AND Equal Opportunity! Fifty-five sounds
about right.

-In summary, the quartet, in their various personas,
tracks off to Nutsville.

-Can be lovely country around there.

Stinking Thinking

Bix stopped some with "Listen! You're outa control!
Your thinking has gotten totally fucked up, and you're
heading for disaster and humiliation!"

Most listened further.

"Any decision you make, however small, run by me!"

They did, and were forever grateful. Told others, Bix
acquiring the reputation of the cool one. But, of course,
a madman dwelt in him also.

Keeping him down, and others un-maniacal, added up to
his life, but got him tired.

And as he aged...well he arrived at the final fatigue as
we all do.

The graveyard is blistering, though they found a shaded
place by a lake.

Some walk there to think.

Power and Precision

-How much does it weigh?

-Do you mean here?

-Okay, let's assume in our further discussion
that we're referring to this latitude and longitude,
and not Mars, or Fiji, or Jackson Hole.

-Two-point-two kilos.

-How can your wife stand you?

-Who cares as to her trivial likes and dislikes!

-Ah hah! Sounds like Mr Precision gets Aces
slapped down on his little power-hand.

-Two-point-two kilos.

Figuring Out Heaven and Earth 1,2

Justine & Bernadette & Bernadette’s Curley

-That man should be ashamed!

-Every chance he got, he made an
exhibition of himself. And in
a bad way!

-Yeah, he was no good all right!
But...I liked him.

-How could you like him? Thinking
of the humiliation of his wife
and children?

-Well, I obviously didn't think of...

-Hey! He was never punished on this Earth!

-You mean, they'll get him eventually?

-That Final Tribune, Baby!

-Sounds like a hip newspaper. But, it’s
Tribunal methinks.

-Anyway, he'll get it then! Worse than he
deserves, I hope.

-One can always hope. Besides, he'll have
St Peter in stitches with all those little acts
he pulls.

-He's worthless, but makes people laugh!

-So, Pete gives him a pass in?

-Probably.

-Who else gets passes?

--Well, the five-percent.

-They PAY their way in then?

-I suppose.

-You mean HEAVEN'S Deck is stacked too?

-Most likely.

The New Hire After a Week

-I hear nothing but bad about our boss,
Mr Hoska, but you say he's wonderful!

-And generous! Why he'd give you the
sleeves outa his vest!

-Hah! Back at YOU on THAT one! Vests HAVE
no sleeves!

-I give up trying to fool you forever!

Three Archetypal Women

Doc Mac, Noggo the reader, Slice, deli guy

-Bitsy is a Fatal Woman.
She’s killed one man,
and ruined seven...
and counting.

-Like Circe, she turns
men into swine!

-What’s hard about that?

...

The Easy Game

At the athletic club we chatted
about a certain total cuteness.

Shorty overheard, warning
“Stay a hundred miles away!
Pure Poison! Guy over in
Fletcher killed hisself!”

Chubby, Maroon, and I threw
towels at him. He was supposed
to collect them anyway, this
Crabapple Jones in everything!

Maroon remarked, "Pure Poison,
hey? Well, who's pure in everything?
We're all amalgams."

Not in her case. A year later she
had gone through each, our
nerves shot.

We invited a Shaman, Paint Horse
of the Waluta Tribe, to come to
Chubby's house.

Must return at least twice more:
“Bad Woman Magic!”

“That’s ambiguous!” Maroon has said.
“And with his strange intonations, you
can’t pin it down.”

“Give him a break! He’s trying to get
us right with the Spirit World.” -Chubs.

“I’ll settle for this shattering one!”

...

A Certain Kind of Club

Come on, Mick! You act as if I’m
killing you!

Mick?

Mick!

Is Doctor Fessbinder in the club?

-What's it like to be so so immensely rich?

-You've known me since kids, and a question like that?
Like from some cheap website!

-I'm curious sometimes. But haven't felt free to ask.

-You're free to say or do anything? How can I control you?

-Through that coal-black dude looks like a wall, watching
us while pretending not to.

-A gentle giant.

-I'm sure. And if I did a thing we did as kids assing around...
like grab that pen from that threadbare flannel shirt pocket...?

-He'd be all over you like a cheap suit!

-Being constantly watched! Jesus! Bodyguards!

-Used to it. And hate it. Both.

-Get death threats?

-Daily, I suppose. They don't tell me.

-Can you ever get alone?

-In the inner portions of the island. The bad guys can’t get
through the cameras on the perimeters.

-Owning an island. Like to try that!

-As everything, tremendous responsibility! Besides I don't
own it entirely. There's that resort.

-Felicity Blot? Who the hell ever heard of such a name?

-Lady author, Victorian times, pen and ink, and thus...

-The modern name is Fuck-a-Lot. Did you know that?

-No, I didn't.

-Another rich dude parks the crazy wife at Bide-a-Bit, and
then breaks in the new secretary there. A giggler!

-Whatever. I can’t supervise the morality there.

-Bullshit! You own the resort too!

-I can't say that I do.

-Yeah, for tax purposes--where you're a criminal, really.

-True, but a legal one.

-How can you live with yourself?

-Rather easily when it's only me.

-Meeting in Paris apartment next, according to
Wall Street Journal. Girl in every port sort of thing?

-All business. Drenched in business.

-And scaring the shit outa the guys in suits, I'll bet.

-A regrettable part, always.

-You really are a prick after all's said and done!

-Guilty. But the only way I keep things in line.

-Then London? Rio?

-Same show. Thence back to island.

-Where the female employees of the resort constitute a harem.

-I only can handle one at a time!

-Life is mostly an immense cramp in the balls for you, but it
has, yes?, its compensations?

-Love that last word!
